Technical Museum, a mine under the museum
In the Technical Museum one thinks first of locomotives, aircraft and experiments. But underneath the museum is something that many visitors overlook, a mine recreated down to the smallest detail. According to the museum, it is the oldest show mine in Europe. It takes you on a journey back more than 100 years ago, when coal was mined in Austria and Moravia.
The guide goes through dark tunnels, and the real machines work to this day. When the air hammer thunders, you quickly understand how hard the work was underground. Also on display is a roller cutter loader, a machine that can break 1,000 tons of coal in a day. The tour lasts about 45 minutes and is loud and dark, so for children from about seven years old a real adventure. A tip for rainy days and for everyone who wants to experience the underworld in a completely different way.
